A dipeptide for a longer life with less disease? | Thymogen
If you glue the amino acids glutamic acid and tryptophan together, you get Thymogen. This dipeptide alleviates diabetes and improves the transport of oxygen to the tissues, we wrote two weeks ago. Today we read an animal study in which Thymogen makes the immune system more alert. Thymogen does this so well that laboratory animals given Thymogen appear to live longer.
Animal study A
In one of these animal tests, the Russians injected Thymogen into the small intestine of mice, waited 2 hours and then removed immune cells from the tissue. They then exposed the immune cells in test tubes to a dangerous bacteria. The Russians repeated the procedure with another group of mice. These animals received an injection without active substances.
The table below shows that after administration of Thymogen there were more immune cells in the sample than after the injection without active substances. In the test tubes, the immune cells also killed more germs.
Animal study B
The researchers then looked at how old the animals could live.
The table below shows that Thymogen extended the lifespan by 10 percent in a group of best responders. The rats given Thymogen also had average and maximum lifespans longer than those of the control group, but these differences were not statistically significant.
The rats the Russians used were susceptible to cancer. When the rats died, the Russians looked to see if they could find tumors and how large and aggressive they were. The table above shows that Thymogen halved the risk of malignant tumors.
