30 milligrams of elemental zinc helps against acne
Supplements with a high, but not absurdly high dose of zinc can reduce acne by more than forty percent. This appears from a trial that French dermatologists published in 1989 in Acta dermato-venereologica.
Study
The researchers used a product containing zinc gluconate for this purpose. The supplement provided 200 milligrams of zinc gluconate daily, which contained 30 milligrams of elemental zinc.
The researchers measured the severity of the acne just before the supplementation started, halfway through the trial and on the last day of the supplementation period. You can see below which criteria they used.
Results
Before and after the supplementation period, the researchers took photos of the subjects' skin and had them assessed by experts who had to indicate whether there had been any improvement.
You can see above that not all, but most test subjects responded positively to zinc supplementation.
