Cardio on an empty stomach just as pleasant as after breakfast

Cardio on an empty stomach just as pleasant as after breakfast
According to studies, moderate-intensive cardio sessions, performed in the morning in a fasted state, stimulate fat loss. Exercising on an empty stomach not only burns relatively much fat, but also trains your body to burn even more fat in the near future. But, some trainers argue, people find training sessions in a fasted state unpleasant. According to American sports scientists at California State University at San Marcos, this is not the case.

Study
The researchers got 25 students, who were physically active for at least two hours a week, to run on a treadmill for half an hour on 2 different occasions in the morning. The researchers taught the students how to score their effort on the Borg scale, and asked them to exercise with an intensity of 13.

One time the test subjects received a light breakfast with 138 kilocalories in the form of carbohydrates half an hour before they started running, the other time the test subjects exercised in a fasted state.

Results
The breakfast did not cause the test subjects to exercise more intensively or cover more kilometers during the session.

Whether the test subjects had breakfast before they started running, or exercised in a fasted taste, they rated the session equally pleasantly [Affective valence]. Breakfast also had no influence on the extent to which the test subjects felt aroused by the session.

Conclusion
"Our results suggest that for individuals performing exercise in accordance with current guidelines, fed state will not impact variables known to influence exercise adherence such as affective valence or enjoyment of activity," write the researchers.

"However, these results should not be generalized for extended fasting, extended exercise, or high-intensity exercise."

Time-restricted feeding without positive or negative effects in female strength athletes
The benefits of time-restricted feeding are less evident among female strength athletes, sports scientists at Texas Tech University report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Strength athletes perform no better or worse with time-restricted feeding
Intermittent fasting, time-restricted feeding, or whatever you want to call it, doesn't reduce the effect of strength training on strength or muscle mass. In novices...
