Cannabidiol supplementation makes Natural Killer cells better cancer fighters
Natural killer cells attack cancer cells - and possibly viruses - more vigorously with cannabidiol supplementation. This is evident from a 2023 American trial, in which subjects were given 50 milligrams of cannabidiol daily.
Study
Kisiolek used a product from Six Degrees Wellness, but that company did not sponsor the study. Kisiolek's university did.
Just before and on the last day of supplementation, the researchers took blood from the subjects and extracted immune cells from it - more precisely: peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Then they added K562 cancer cells. The ratio of immune cells to cancer cells was 1:10.
Results
Based on previous studies, the researchers assume that cannabidiol had mainly affected the Natural Killer cells. NK cells have CB2 receptors, with which cannabidiol can interact.
The researchers suspect that this effect is caused by cannabidiol reducing the release of the control hormone CRF via the CB1 receptor in the hypothalamus. This reduces the release of cortisol and therefore improves sleep.
We ourselves, ignorant and not hindered by much knowledge, suspect that the mechanism is simpler. We suspect that the increase in sleep quality has little to do with CB1 receptors, but with CB2 receptors in the brain's sleep centers.
Conclusion
