Blackcurrant for faster sprints
Supplementing with a black currant extract is interesting for athletes who have to make endurance efforts, we wrote recently. It also appears that blackcurrant extract is useful for athletes who have to perform several high-intensity movements in a row.
Study
The British used a CurraNZ, a product of Health Currancy, the study's sponsor.
On another occasion, the students were given a placebo.
On the last day of the supplementation period, the students had to make 6 sprints of 19 seconds on a treadmill. Between sprints, the students ran for 15 seconds at a relatively low intensity.
Results
After the sprints, the students had more lactic acid in their blood if they had taken the blackcurrant extract than if they had taken a placebo.
