Leafy greens and citrus fruits reduce the risk of bladder cancer

A diet with relatively many leafy vegetables and citrus fruits reduces the risk of bladder cancer. A little. This is evident from an epidemiological study that Dutch researchers published in the European Journal of Nutrition.

Leafy greens and citrus fruits reduce the risk of bladder cancer

Study
Maastricht scientists analyzed the data of 16,141 study participants who had participated in 11 different studies. The studies were conducted in 11 different research centers. All studies were part of the international project BLader cancer Epidemiology and Nutritional Determinants [BLEND].

In these studies, researchers compared the diet of people who had been diagnosed with bladder cancer with the diet of people without bladder cancer. In the publication we are talking about now, the researchers looked at vegetables and fruit.

Results
After researchers divided the study participants into three roughly equal groups based on their vegetable intake, they found that a relatively high intake of vegetables - particularly leafy greens - reduced the risk of bladder cancer by 18 percent.

Diet rich in olive oil reduces chance of developing nearly all kinds of cancer
This is suggested in a meta-analysis that Greek nutritionists published in 2011 in Lipids in Health and Disease.
