Covid patients recover faster with quercetin phytosome supplementation
Quercetin in itself probably already has an antiviral effect, and that may be even more true for forms of quercetin with an increased bioavailability. According to a sponsored study, supplementation with such a form of quercetin accelerates the covid patients' recovery process.
Study
The subjects in the eperimental group were given a supplement containing the quercetin phytosome produced by Indena for 14 days. The researchers used Quevir, a product of the Italian PharmExtracta. [pharmextracta.com] You can read more about quercetin phytosome here.
During the first week, the subjects were given 3 tablets each day, each containing 200 milligrams of quercetin in the form of 500 milligrams of quercetin phytosome. That is a total of 1500 milligrams of quercetin phytosome per day. The subjects divided their tablets over the day. They took one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.
In the second week, the subjects were given 2 tablets per day.
The subjects in the control group received no supplement, nor did they receive a placebo.
The two groups did not differ in the severity of symptoms and additional risk factors such as obesity and diabetes. However, the subjects in the quercetin group [QP] were on average 6.3 years older than the subjects in the control group [SC].
Sponsors
The researchers were paid by both Indena and PharmExtracta. A number of researchers, including the first author, are on the payroll of these companies.
Results
After 7 days, 90 percent of the subjects in the control group were still positive according to a PCR test. In the quercetin group this was only 24 percent.
At the end of the 2 weeks, 19 percent of the control group had recovered. In the quercetin group this was 57 percent.

Side effects
"No peculiar side effects were reported by the patients and the few cases of gastric pain and reflux, constipation, diarrhea, meteorism, flatulence and sleep disorders were self-resolving in few days and similarly occurred in the control group demonstrating that they likely could not be attributed to the use of quercetin phytosome."
"Conversely, most patients of the quercetin phytosome group orally reported to investigators clear beneficial effects like a reduction of fatigue and tiredness and appetite improvement."
