Doping hunters reveal that 18-methyl nandrolone is an effective designer steroid
Arnold made norbolethone from norgestrel and THG from gestrinone. These are weak androgens with a strong progesterone effect. Pharmacists put them in hormone preparations for women. Norgestrel and gestrinone have an ethynyl group on C17. If you know what you're doing, you can replace the group with an ethyl group in your kitchen (as it were) and you get norbolethone and THG.
This chemical trick, which we've written about in The Anabolics Book, can be used with more easily available synthetic steroid hormones.
The Australian researchers bought various gynaecological hormones, used the Arnold manoeuvre, and then studied the effects of the new hormones on genetically modified yeast cells. The yeast cells have receptors for androgens and progestogens and can indicate how strong an androgenic and progesterone effect compounds have.
The researchers didn't find any invisible steroids. The couple of effective steroids they mention in the article are already known to doping hunters or can be detected by the standard tests. Hum. That makes you wonder if they tried the Arnold manoeuvre on tibolone.
A = testosterone; B = trenbolone; C = nandrolone; D = 18-methyl nandrolone.
Norbolethone also has an 18-methyl nandrolone skeleton. A steroid that, just like norbolethone, you can make from norgestrel is the 17-alpha analogue of 18-methyl nandrolone. But it's not a good performer if you are to believe this article. The relative androgenic effect of this compound is 79 and its relative progestogen effect is 28.
Oh yes. 18-methyl nandrolone is more or less available as a supplement.
Ever heard of 13-ethyl 3-methoxy 2,5(10)-gona-diene 17-one?
