Amino Impact boosts stamina by 12 percent
Amino Impact works: the sports drink, which is a mix of creatine, amino acids and caffeine, extends the time that reasonably fit students can run at 70 percent of their VO2 max by 12 percent. Sports scientists from the College of New Jersey report the results of the study they did in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
Amino Impact is a product made by Inbounds Athletics. It’s a powder, of which you dissolve 26 g in half a litre of water. That gives you an energy drink that contains about 2 g of a Red Bull-type mixture of caffeine, taurine and glucuronolactone, 5 g creatine citrate, 2.5 g beta-alanine and 8 g of a mix of leucine, iso-leucine, valine, arginine and glutamine. The exact composition is listed below.
The researchers got 15 active students to run twice on a treadmill. On both occasions the students had to run for as long as they could at 70 percent of their VO2max. Ten minutes before starting to run the subjects drank either a placebo or Amino Impact.
The figure below shows that the subjects a. after they’d drunk Amino Impact were able to run for 12 percent longer and b. that their condition was nothing to write home about.
Just before the subjects got on the treadmill [PRE], when they’d been running for 10 minutes [EX 10] and immediately after finishing they had to say how focused they were, how much energy they had, and how tired they were. Amino Impact increased the subjects’ energy and focus while they were running.
So Amino Impact works, the researchers conclude. The study was paid for by the manufacturer of the energy drink. What’s more, the research leader, Jay Hoffman, has “a financial interest in Koach, Sport and Nutrition”, the outfit that cooked up the new energy drink.
We’ll no doubt be hearing more about Amino Impact. The composition of the product suggests it’s also intended for strength athletes. No doubt we’ll soon be seeing studies on the effect of Amino Impact on bodybuilders’ workouts.
